DONGDAEMUN, SEOUL

ddp-natalie-suarez-seoul-3

I fell in love with the print of this vintage Japanese dress. Daisies on daisies. I scoured it at the Greenpoint studio of Doppelstandard, and I knew it was just perfect for my Seoul Fashion Week travels. Now I am a lot more picky with my vintage. The fits. The quality. The colors. It’s always hard finding something unique that doesn’t require a trip to the tailor. I had a very unfussy day at the shows in Korea. Our shuttle, so quirky and full of colors and prints, always right on time at our hotel for pick-up. I loved arriving to DDP before the crowds of streetstyle stars (and street style babys) walked up and down the ramp…with the slew of photographers on their knees getting the right shot. I just wanted to see the shows. Constantly blown away by Korea’s eclectic taste and styling. I look at the runway and I’m thinking “wow, that is exactly how I would have styled it.” One show that really stood out to me was Lucky Choulette. It was an 8pm show on the terrace of DDP though I easily could have crawled back into bed at The Shilla, I had a feeling it was going to be good. Sequins with sparkles. Gowns with baseball caps. 50’s padded shoulders. Western influences that’d make any cowboy turn his head. It was a mix of Isabel Marant westerness, meets Marc jacobs quirkiness, meets Natalie Off Duty’s closet, meets eclectic Korean fashion. Even though there was a ton of styles in the show, the fabrics and cuts seemed to all blend. I love when I can’t expect what look will walk down the runway next.

HELLO FROM SEOUL

seoul-natalie-suarez-off-duty-2

Dylana and I made a last minute trip to the beautiful Seoul, South Korea! We were constantly talking about it, but with our crazy schedules, it felt impossible to make that 14 hour flight and deal with jet lag on top of everything we had on our work schedule. But our amazing friend Ashley, founder of the NYC store ANTHOM, inspired us to hop on the flight with her, and explore Korean fashion. She was buying for her store. And we thought it’d be the perfect GIRL TRIP. We just couldn’t wait to get some killer photos front row at the shows, explore the towns, and eat, eat, eat.

I’ve only been to Southeast Asia with my family before, but never thought I’d be in Korea! I have to say that the city is wonderful. So full of life. Lots of people. Everyone was extremely friendly. Everyone’s skin was stunning. (Korea is known for their amazing skin care. Can you say Dr. Jart?!) And I love Korean BBQ and bulgogi. We were ready to have a taste of their culture…something so different from our own lives, and we found it fascinating. The style, so influenced by pop culture and a bit of French and Swedish influence. I can’t believe how many striped shirts, oversize overalls, and berets there were. I even had to go scour a great beret of my own to take back to NYC.

After a full day of shows at the beautiful DDP (Dongdaemun Design Plaza) venue that really did resemble a space ship, we hit the streets of Dongdaemun. The food stands and endless “face” shops selling facial masks and cheeky beauty products. We bought it all, even the face snail mask, and broccoli sheets promising only the most beautiful of skin. But by those 8pm shows…our jetlag hitting us extremely hard. Somehow, after a few hits of soju, we still managed to stay awake, and hit a night of karaoke at our hotel. We wanted anything to have our bodies adjust to the crazy time difference. You only live once right?

WHEN IN ROMA

unamed-back

When in Roma, and traveling in 90 degree weather, wear only shoulder baring tops. This year I have been traveling so much, and I have still so much to fill you in on. This was my last day in ITALIA. Looking back, I have thoroughly enjoyed living my entire summer in this one pair denim shorts, having the craziest tan ever, and the blondest of locks. Since then, I’ve colored my hair back to a chocolate brown, and back to my normal olive shade. It is only in Italy that you can just eat pizza and canolis all day…sit in a square, and watch the artist’s paint an image of the city. You sometimes deserve to treat yourself to an escape that feels much like out of a movie or fairytale. I remember just arriving in Rome, and hopping on the back of a scooter taxi. We were far too tired from our roadtrip to walk. We slept in the back seat as we dodged traffic through the noisy streets past the Colosseum, our driver shouting and ringing her bell. So hot and smoldering, I had to squint just looking up at it. But still, happy as can be. It’s nice knowing you can cool off with a perfect glass of white wine on any street corner. But now, can you believe it’s mid-fall? All I can smell are the pumpkin spice lattes and pine cones. My wool winter coats are finally making an appearance…as are my leather jackets. I’m currently in San Francisco. Making my way to LA in the afternoon, and planning a Caribbean work trip in the next month. Somehow trying to fit in my birthday with friends in the mix. Who says you need sleep when you’ve got places to go…and people to see?!

And due to limited wifi, I realized not one of my Snapchats posted. Luckily, I have them saved..for memories. Now watch them on my YOUTUBE.

SISTER SWIRLS – NYC to SEOUL

fashion-month-natalie-suarez-5

Dylana and I love to take our 70’s inspired favorites and mix it in with our minimals. I loved this look from NYFW. It’s cozy enough to wear time and time again. Those psychadelic swirls, nubby leather coats, and Dy’s extra pink sunnies. I’m currently in SEOUL, South Korea, for their fashion week (who would have thought it’d still be fashion week in the month of October?!) and I’m super inspired by what we’ve been seeing on the runways. Eclectic layering. Boyish blazers. Simplistic street style. There’s everything here. But what I’m loving most is the Korean bbq and killer face masks (ever heard of a broccoli or snail muccus face mask?!) Stay tuned.
