This gigantic straw hat has been to many beaches with us. From lazy mornings in Miami to here at dusk in Costa Rica. It’s been this close to getting washed away into the ocean that I’m surprised it’s still here in my closet back in New York awaiting it’s next sandy adventure. Here we are just minutes from losing the sun at the beautiful Four Seasons Peninsula Papagayo. The beach so quiet all you could hear was the buzzing from the trees and the crashing of the waves. Pure paradise. New York City felt extremely far away. Suddenly you smell of sunscreen, the ocean, and bug spray. A comforting combination. It’s nice having these photos to soak back in this little moment. When all you need is a beer and your best friend’s shoulder to lean on.
Dylana and I worked on the latest SATVA Living photoshoot again this season and we love shooting anything that has to do with the outdoors and being active. SATVA Living is a super special brand right now in activewear. They have partnered with Suminter India Organics®, an environmental and socially conscious organic cotton production corporation in India that makes it a mission to create a symbiotic balance between people, planet, production, profits and social stewardship. In an industry that easily finds itself using harmful processes of production, SATVA wants to encourage more and more people to keep production environmentally friendly, while still being on top of their game in terms of design. Now how cute are the booty shorts and criss-crossed backs?! It is awesome that now more than ever, the multi-dimensional woman is celebrated. The ability to do whatever we want, when we want, and literally kick ass. Empowering women to be rockstars. Strong but still chic. A day spent in yoga pants are honestly my favorite.
Dylana and I collaborated with the amazing NYC based band, City of the Sun, to perform at the ANTHOM Soho store opening. The boys and I have been trying to plan a performance for over a year now, and it’s been magical seeing everything come to life with everyone’s insanely busy schedules. Singing and music are in our blood. It’s what gets us through the day. It’s what inspires what we wear. Where we go. What we do. We love that raw, deep soulful voice and sound. Nothing felt better than singing along to City of the Sun’s dreamy instrumentals. They take you to an alternate universe every single time. ANTHOM was the absolute perfect place to put on a gig. It’s luxurious high white ceilings, copper accents, and minimal elevated aesthetic. It’s my best friend’s store and I couldn’t be more proud to see her unique vision come to life. Be sure to check it out at 25 Mercer Street in Soho. My go-to for anything super chic. Dylana and I both wore head-to-toe Yune Hofor the night.
Dylana and I have been giving you a little taste of music more this year which is exciting. We took 3 of our favorite songs and gave it a little flamenco rock touch for the night. Bang Bang by Nancy Sinatra. Chrystalised by The XX. Sea of Love by Phil Phillips. Thanks to all of the lovely readers who came out for the night. We had a packed house!
Bonnaroo has always been my favorite music festival. It’s gritty. It’s dirty. It’s hot. Everyone’s dripping in sweat on the dance floor. And it’s all about being an individual. Wearing all the colors of the rainbow. Dancing barefoot. Making friends with absolute strangers. High-fiving every single person you pass with a simple “Happy Roo!” You just feel everyone’s freedom and positivity. You immediately feel like you’ve left the real world and landed in a peaceful, wacky place that has literally no cares in the world. The only thing you have to worry about is what band is playing next and when you can hit your tent for a quick cat nap.
The Reefcrew and I definitely know how to escape and adventure in our own crazy alternate universes. Making our mark and stamping each city with our footprint. Documenting our own stories. You could definitely say Bonnaroo is like an alternate universe. Out in the middle of Manchester, Tennessee! The festival is a grassy campground of smiling, dancing hippies, with one thing in common: the love for music. And you know us at Reef LOVE music. It inspires us to keep going if we’re somewhere out in the ocean crushing a new wave, or traveling to exotic locations for our next shoot, or simply taking on the New York City streets. Right now, I’m currently listening to “American Money” by BORNS and “Jimmy Franco” by Lolawolf. I love leaving a new city with a new tune to add to my forever growing playlist. Each song a reminder to live in the moment and feel the freedom we all felt in the crowds, dancing under the stars.
We counted all of our steps over the weekend, and we crushed miles and miles. We had an early morning to hike the Tennesse Old Stone trail. We walked across the famous John Seigenthaler Bridge to the Riverfront. We dancing for hours with our headphones on in the silent disco. Those long days on our feet are normally the best. Our Reef Rovers kept us company every step of the way.
