CITY OF CHAMPAGNE | REIMS

reims-paris-france-natalie-suarez-2

We had just landed in Paris for our Veuve Clicquot adventure in the beautiful city of champagne: Reims, France. I’ve got a full rundown coming soon for you and I can’t wait to fill you in on all things CHAMPAGNE and take you on a private tour of the exclusive Hotel Du Marc. Talk about one magical, magical trip. From Paris we took a 1.5 hour drive to Reims and arrived just during magic hour. It was a sleepy Sunday afternoon, and I had to cure my jetlag with a good cup of coffee. Quiet little cafes and empty roads. Just the sounds of birds chirping by the ferris wheel. But it was just what we needed before what turned out to be a wild few days of literally popping bottles…but you know, with a certain je ne sais quoi. Our team of editors and photographers were in high spirits despite the fact that we all flew the longest flights into France from around the world. But all was okay as soon as we walked around Reims, for the sunlight in France somehow always bounces off the pale buildings into a gold hue that I just go gah-gah for and makes you forget any sort of jet lag that may me overtaking us. Bonjour!

CANNONBALL INTO COACHELLA | REEF

reef-girls-coachella-natalie-suarez-26

I have survived my 5th Coachella! What a weekend! No crazy festival is never complete without my Reef squad from Southern California. They always say “How long are you staying in NYC? You know you’re still a California girl at heart!” It’s true. My heart still beats for the west coast. That tan you get on your left arm from sitting in the car. The gnarly beach waves the moment you step out of the salt water. But most of all, it is the ability to wear sandals every day of the year that always brings me back home. By now, you know all about my love for the Reef Rover. The Rover sandal. The new Rover fringed sneaker. There’s just something about the Rover that never gets old to me. It’s that I can go dancing, I can walk miles, hike, and walk through water in them because they are so comfortable. It’s that Swellular Technology, man. Your feet will thank you! They mold to you the moment you put them on. I leave them by my doorstep because they’re the first thing I gravitate to when running out the door.

Plus, I love dressing them up. They’re simple so I can go wild with the rest of my ensemble. Leave it to me to take my favorite surf sandal and pair them with a flashy gold spaghetti strap dress. Its the New York City in me too…I like to add a dash of glam. Or I’ll pair them with leather shorts by the pool. Climb rocks in them in my bikini. I wasn’t given the nickname “punk” in grade school for no reason. I’ve always been one who took the adventurous route and have fun along the way. There’s never a reason not to laugh and live in the moment. For this festival, we had a really awesome group. Professional rock climbers were in our house from The North Face and of course our Reef pro surfers: the awesome Mike Lay from Cornwall, England and Victoria Vergara from Biarritz, France. You may say we were a pretty random bunch, but that’s what made our Coachella weekend extra memorable. We all come together because we have many things in common. We all seek adventure, travel for a living, and like to bring that little extra excitement to whatever we put our minds to. I think that’s what I love about my Reef family. Living life a little bit on the edge and not being afraid to get down and dirty. Sometimes you don’t need the pretty festival dress. Just your bikini, my Rovers, and a good bottle of sunscreen.

Favorite gigs at Coachella?

Sia: For sounding amazing (even though incognito as always with her bangs) and for putting on a memorable, heart stopping performance featuring my favorite actors and dancers.

Guns n’ Roses: Even sitting in a chair due to an accident, the man can sing.

Ice Cube: Because the movie Straight Outta Compton was by far one of my favorite movies this past year!

BRITISH AIRWAYS | BLEISURE

london-british-airways-natalie-off-duty-42

There’s so much about London to love, and I always travel by way of British Airways. I’m so excited to partner with the airline in flying World Traveler Plus. With work, I like to take the red-eye from NYC to England especially if I’ve got a gig back to back. 9pm flights. 9 am calltimes. Travel while you sleep is the way I go…and all that time will allow sometimes! I’m good at finishing up a long day, putting on my eye covers, and waking up to the sound of the rain lightly tapping the windows. It’s a comforting feeling. A lot of my travel experience has to do with the flight. When I have a great flight and extra space, and great food, I feel a lot better the moment I land. It’s all about the spirit of the journey. British Airways is all about #BLeisure. Meaning traveling for both business and leisure. I think I’m a master at traveling with a carry-on, working, fitting in as many appointments as possible, and still making it to the pub at the end of the day with friends. The world suddenly begins to feel smaller and smaller with every flight I hop on. I can’t wait to hop on British Airways back for a muddy Glastonbury night or a sunny afternoon at The Ace in Shoreditch.

I’ve always had this sweet spot in my heart for London. When I think of London, I think of running down Brick Lane on a rainy day in my Dr. Martens for the first time. In awe of the record shops, little Indian shops one after another. The style. It doesn’t matter the season, it’ll be raining yet beautiful and moody. I think of curling up into a pub at any moment at Covent Garden. Finding music, everywhere. I think of punks. I think of an underground system that puts the NYC subway to shame. And I love the British sense of humor. They’re witty. It’s a city that understands my humor and I can’t wait to go back.

EASTER IN ENGLAND | LONDON

london-british-airways-natalie-off-duty-1

Now I know why my Brit friends recommended to “pack a brolly” (yes, the term means umbrella) when they heard about my London escapade with British Airways (more on that in my next post). But it’s true that London really never stops raining. Usually you’ll find me on a flight to London in late February or September for a shoot or a few days of non-stop days at London Fashion Week, bouncing from show to show. It was a really nice having this slower pace. Focusing on the city, restaurant hopping, and watching endless amounts of movies on the plane. It was Easter the morning we arrived and I have never seen London so incredibly sleepy. I was beyond jet-lagged and though I could hit snooze a few more times in my hotel bed, I did manage to stroll out in the rain in search of the nearest pub. We ended up at The George just off of Somerset House, and had a full Sunday roast complete with mashed peas, potatoes, perfectly roasted chicken along with a side of fish and chips. Never had comfort food tasted so good. There’s something about the English pub culture that I love. You’ll always find that one guy that most likely slept overnight in the pub (this is a real thing) talking to himself over a glass of wine. Or you may be inches away from a bar fight. Luckily, everyone seemed drained from a weekend of Easter raving that our pub experience was extra chill…leaving us to fill our bellies in peace.

As for my wardrobe, I’ve been traveling so much lately for work that I can pack with my eyes closed. Turtlenecks in Europe are always a good idea. As is denim, sneakers, and a good wool coat. Minimal. I’m off to Paris this evening, and I definitely decided to glam up what’s in my suitcase for it seems we may have a really star-studded weekend. Stay tuned!
