SOMEWHERE OUT EAST | MONTAUK

I took my Audi R8 to Montauk this summer, and boy does this baby vrrooom fast. Summer never feels complete without a car and the open road. You just feel free, unstoppable, and more excited to explore than ever before. I was out east for a weekend work trip…but managed to squeeze in a ton of R&R. Montauk is a place I’ve been going to for years, but this time, it felt new, exciting, and special. With the usual stops, like dinner at Crow’s Nest and countless hours in the roman baths at Gurney’s, I also ventured out to Sag Harbor. We sailed away in a friend’s boat called The Kiwi in Sag Harbor out to the beautiful untouched shores of Gardiner’s Island. Some of the most peaceful beaches are out East…as are the memories.

BARE ON THE BLACK SAND

I was literally toasting on the black sand beaches of Maui this summer. The darker the sand, the hotter it actually gets. Within only 10 minutes, I could feel the tip of my nose and shoulders immediately turning pink. For some reason this particular beach wouldn’t show up on our GPS. With just a little wooden sign saying “beach,” we followed it down a tiny road leading to an absolutely perfect little black sand cove. The most off-the-beaten path you can get. What I remember most is the breeze, and chasing my hat down the beach everywhere I turned. But it was also it’s intense color palette that left me smitten.

UNDERSTATED GLAMOUR | ST MAARTEN

It felt very Old Hollywood glam at the La Samanna Hotel in St. Maarten. It’s beautiful veranda and pool, perched perfectly on the side of the cliff. It’s a place I would only read about in novels. I whipped out my most ruffled and metallic dress for the afternoon…both it and my sweat glistening in the island sun, as I was lulled by the waves.

PHOTOS BY HE | ST MAARTEN

Team Suarez consists of both Dylana and I, either behind and in-front of the lens. Dy and I just get one another. We’re free to be our crazy selves. We’re sisters. There’s no filter in anything we say or do. As a model, I shoot with different photographers all the time, switching in and out of character, sometimes I’m more comfortable in front of an unknown lens, I get to act…but there’s just something about being photographed by the people you love, which allows you to really be yourself. There’s an ease. It’s rare my boyfriend photographs me, but this time on our trip to St. Maarten, I let him. I guess now you can call him an instagram boyfriend. He absolutely loves to take photos and really does have a fantastic, editorial eye. I let him have a little fun behind the lens and gave him full creative freedom with my 35 mm. Only he can think wearing a towel as a dress is elegant on me.
