THE LOW V

miami-natalie-suarez-edition-hotel-14

Yep, it’s all about that super low V. Only us girls with the small boobs can rock it like no other without getting looked at like we’re asking for it. And who said bras are in anymore? It is true that flat chested girls can get away with some crazy getups. Every designer and their mom made this top, but it’s all about how you style it that makes it your own. I paired mine with my favorite vintage belt and extra large sunglasses. A bit Jackie O mixed with Jane Birkin mixed with some California lovin’ squeezed on top.

I’m still in my hotel in Austin, Texas at the moment, just getting off the phone with my best friend who ended our call with “Let’s go anywhere. I don’t care where. I’ll even do Miami.” You have no idea how hard I wish I was laying on that beach. I just finished the super wild SXSW circuit with my Reef family, shooting some killer stories in the BBQ-filled land of Austin, where everything truly is bigger, badder, and better. Iif you really want to laugh your ass off, go check out my Snapchat (NatalieOffDuty). We’ve gone knee deep into the Greenbelt creek, went from rap to country to rock gigs, and stayed up way past our bedtimes. Believe me, spending a few days with a team of surfers immediately gets you pounding beers and saying “gnarly” before you can wrap your head around what you’re doing. But we couldn’t have asked for a better time. Team Suarez has indeed been eating and adventuring their way through many cities this year, wearing loads of wild outfits, with a ton more stories to tell. Tomorrow I’m back in NYC. Man, I can’t wait to sleep in my own bed. Then, we’re off to London for the weekend. Fish and chips anyone?

THE WORLD IS MINE

florence-italy-natalie-suarez-11

Sometimes when my friends and I get so caught up with life and work, we like to joke “wouldn’t life be so much easier if we just got up, went to the country, and worked at the local supermarket?” But then we just laugh, and realize “no, never.” It’s that rush of being in a city. That drive. The feeling of constantly hustling. Making connections. Always learning something new…whether it be setting up the cable in my loft, or learning to be a better friend/sister/or daughter. The feeling of being able to get up and go travel. To explore a new city. To meet new people. To be strong enough to cut out the bad ones. That rush of excitement, of being constantly on your toes. Never knowing what will hit you the moment you leave your front door. First you’re battling the beast of the subway, the rush at the airport, but once you get into your little haven…your final destination…your home, your corner in your favorite cafe, you feel so much better. All the craziness and stress you felt before instantly fades away. You forget anything that’s been bothering you before. Traveling is a healer. Coming home is a healer. My favorite quote is “the road is better than the inn.” Sometimes it’s the challenges, crazy times, and stories that happen along the way to your final destination that make you smile and feel grateful. That’s a bit of how I’ve been feeling lately. Especially with my new home in DUMBO. When I’m here, it’s like all negative feeling fades away. It’s my refugee, my safe zone, my creative place, and my happy place. Nobody knows where I am. But it is still the journey of getting here that makes me smile. The people that got me to sitting here, writing this blog post, looking out over to see the twinkles of the Williamsburg Bridge. I can count on my two hands the important people in my life. And I like that. Simplicity.

I still don’t know how many planes I’ve been on. How many cities I’ve been to. How many shoot locations I’ve been on. How many taxis I’ve hailed. How many cars I’ve hopped in. But when I sit back, I realize I wouldn’t have life any other way right now. Free of any ties. Free to be me. It’s nice doing whatever the hell you want, and realize…THE WORLD IS MINE. And the rest falls into place. Just cherish all the wackiness that comes in between. I just want everyone reading this today to feel that.

“THE WORLD IS MINE.”

For a few days, Florence was mine. And it was refreshing. It’s one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever been to. There’s a calmness to it, and it was just like a movie set. I dream of Firenze because I’ve never seen a city like it.

MOVIE HOPPING AT SUNDANCE

canada-goose-sundance-film-festival-natalie-suarez-80

I love anything that has to do with movies and movie hopping (one of my many talents). So it’s obvious Sundance Film Festival remains a new favorite time of year. It’s that mental escape of sitting in a theatre in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by mountains and snow, that is just so rare and amazing. It’s so un-Hollywood that it’s even more sparkly. It’s so removed, your mind easily becomes part of the film. You never know if you’ll leave the theatre in tears, or still laughing…all the way to the local pub. Our Canada Goose team and I were definitely bursting into tears of laughter most of the time. Our fart jokes were by the far the best in town #AskAnyoneWhoKnows (still can’t get over our hashtag). But that is sort of what happens when you stick a bunch of amazing goofs in one house perched high on the hill, one traveling van (with no radio signal), seated in front of bottles of wine (at all times). There was indeed something in that clean and crisp winter air Park City, Utah. I miss you so!

EN EL BARRIO

natalie-suarez-dylana-suarez-los-angeles-style-6

Visiting 87 year old Aunt Sally’s home in East LA is always a fun, and calming afternoon. We always end up drinking a ton of coffee, and talking about everything. But most especially, the past. It’s like going back in time, to when life was a lot more simpler. A lot slower. She was much like a mother figure to my father. He was born in that same little house in el barrio. Hard to imagine him being born in that tiny house, let alone having a dresser cabinet pulled out  as his actual crib. Being the blonde baby he was with a head of curls, and big blue eyes (yes, my Latino side of my family were born with the iciest blue eyes ever)…he really stood out, and almost got kidnapped right on that very front yard where Dylana is sitting. Luckily, our grandma called in “Adrian! Adrian!” and grabbed him before the kidnappers got back in their van and sped off. A lot has happened in that house. Aunt Sally still lives there, her Christmas decorations seem to be up all year long, but that’s the charm. And she speaks of my Dad as a baby as a child of her own, and how our uncle was the most handsome actor in the area. The way she looks at my uncle’s photo on the wall makes my heart melt. We love you Aunt Sally.
