HOTEL MAJESTIC KUALA LUMPUR

kuala-lumpur-malaysisa-114

On my last visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia I had the pleasure of staying at the beautiful Hotel Majestic. My grandfather was the manager at the Station Hotel in the 50’s, another historic hotel just across the street, where my mother spent most of her childhood! She had many stories of sneaking off to Hotel Majestic, hiding in the hotel corridors as a kid, making new friends with travelers from around the world. She loved getting a taste of the world outside Malaysia by being in touch with so many international guests. The Majestic opened back in 1932 as one of the most luxurious 5 star hotels in all of Malaysia and to this day, still stays true to both it’s rating and charming old self. It also has a lot of British influence, complete with a gorgeous orchid room serving afternoon high-tea and. It’s amazing staying at a hotel that is so iconic and so in touch with my mother’s childhood. It was like taking a step in the past, with a touch of Old Hollywood glamour. Noodle soup and curry for breakfast ain’t so bad either. Thank you Hotel Majestic for the lovely stay!

PLACE OF COLOR | MELAKA, MALAYSIA

melaka-malaysia-26-2640

Melaka is one of the most beautiful states in Malaysia. It actually has a ton of Portuguese influence. Therefore, there is a lot of color! You can really tell when driving through it’s old sun soaked streets. Whenever I looked up, I saw beautifully painted yellow and pink windows and walls. It has that European touch mixed with Southeast Asia. Talk about amazing. Pastel blues and bright orange street corners. There is no other place in Malaysia like it! Everything is truly so vibrant and bright. From the bright pink dragon fruit boba tea to the beautifully adorned floral buggies. Even as a child, I was completely drawn to this place. I would beg my aunts and uncles in Kuala Lumpur to take me. It’s an overload on all of your senses…it’s every photographer’s dream destination. From the crazy markets to the narrow back roads. This time trip brought back all of those memories. We stopped by our favorite Hainanese restaurant for Melaka’s famous chicken and rice balls with my Auntie Margaret, before dodging crowds of people on Jonker Street. It was the holiday weekend of Deepavali, and it seemed like everyone decided to take the drive to Melaka for a day of eating and drinking. I mean, what else do you do in Malaysia? It is a country to indulge. To eat street food. To grab a freshly cut coconut on the side of the road. The food deserves a post of it’s own…it’s that amazing. For now, take a peek inside beautiful Melaka.

EXOTIC FLORALS IN THAILAND

phuket-thailand-68

Two of my very best friends are designers at Haute Hippie and they are literally like my fairy princesses. They’re always sashaying into dinner in the most beautiful silk and chiffon dresses. Feathered sweaters. They love anything that glitters combined with delicate fabrics and feminine silhouettes. Their taste in dresses fit for a fairytale is certainly rubbing off on me. I brought this stunning Haute Hippie dress for trip to Phuket, Thailand and it blended in so perfectly with the green lush and colors of the temples. So perfect. It makes me want to twirl, dance, laugh. Barefoot over my bikini. Knowing that it was created by my friends makes this piece even more special. I miss everything about you, Southeast Asia.

TRAVELING IN STYLE TO ART BASEL | NETJETS

net-jets-art-basel-natalie-lim-suarez-3

I can definitely get used to flying around the world in a private jet. The team and I went to Art Basel with NetJets, and it was the most amazing travel experience. NetJets is so fantastic for those quick mid-week trips. No long lines at the airport, or crazy wait at security. Simply pull up with your carry-on luggage and jump on. Champagne in hand. Anything goes, really when it comes to flying private. Just get a handful of your friends for your next big adventure. It was pure luxury from the decor to the food, complete with an amazing flight crew. Talk about the life of a rockstar. I certainly had to dress the part in my oversize vintage coat and hat! And I love any reason to dress up before a flight. Luckily the jet had wifi, so I got to still be connected, finishing up some last minute work before ripping off my coat in sunny Miami. Traveling has seriously never felt better.

What I love about Art Basel is of course escaping the winter for a hot, hot December weekend in Miami. The New Yorker in me loves any reason for a quick 48 hours on the beach. I packed light with only a few bikinis and of course, the occasional party dress. Miami is all about what happens once the sun goes down. Art Basel has some of the most extravagant parties right on the sand with beautiful purplish-pink sunsets. It’s also one of my absolute favorite times of the year to people watch. Basel brings in a wild crowd of quirky and eccentric people in from all over the world with one thing in common: a love for art…oh, and let’s not forget the partying. One of my favorite exhibits was at Faena Bazaar, a curated shop of high-end designers along with an insanely cool virtual reality installment created by the team of the theatre play, Sleep no More. Virtual reality definitely felt very real. When we weren’t out exploring and discovering new things, the rest of the day were spent by the hotel pool or in the jacuzzi at the Four Seasons followed by more gallery hopping. The art deco style of Miami keeps my camera glued to my hands. Nights of course were spent on the dance floor. There was so much to see and do, it’s so hard to fit it all in! Team Suarez likes to work hard and play hard. After our two wild nights, we simply put on our dark sunglasses and hopped on board. Au revoir.
