STRUT YOUR STUFF | NYFW

nyfw-streetstyle-6resized

NYFW was brutally cold, but insanely fun. I mixed some of my favorite leather pieces, and broke it up with extra chunky socks, and fur scarves. Oh, not to mention the absolutely perfect pair of oversize sunglasses. (Gentle Monster, you rule.) So many shows had that 60’s, 70’s influence that already rules most of my current wardrobe. The oversize suede trench coats and patent leather mini dresses. Waist belts so high that even your mother’s highwaters couldn’t top that. But then there was the unexpected sparkles at Milly, and dramatic minimalism at Yigal Azrouel.  Tomboy vibes at Ji Oh. Like always, anything goes. Take a peek at my favorite front row snapshots. Time to strut your stuff girl.

LE PARKING LOT

streetstyle-LA-4resized

This parking lot is all too familiar. Chinatown. Where I’ve stopped for some of the most amazing chicken chow fun and dumplings since I was born. It’s fun revisiting one of your old stomping grounds. So many memories. We decided to relive it and hop in our car back in Los Angeles and take out our adorable Great Aunt Sally for a late lunch. Her icy blue eyes showing wisdom and age over our steamy bowls of soups. She’s constantly reminding my sister and I that life goes by too fast. Do what you love now, everything’s going to be okay, and look out for the GOOD BOYS (why of course Great Aunt Sally!) There’s nothing a comforting cup of jasmine tea, egg noodle soup, and a good chat can’t fix. It was the most perfect simple day. And I kept things classic. Disheveled hair under my favorite black hat, pants so wide that I can move and jump and dance however I feel, and a crisp, clean blazer. I don’t even remember the last time I wore a blazer, but believe me, you feel super smart in one. That with a great tote and ballet flat. But go for your most slept-in tee, and a tug at your drawstring to loosen things up. Till next time parking lot.

BEFORE THE NIGHT

sullivan3

It’s funny how quickly I miss home in NYC whenever I’m traveling. The twinkling lights of the city from my windows. The yellow cabs zooming by always… accomodating to our “I need to get there NOW” schedule. The eclectic style and people. The music at the back of the bar. I never get bored, and I never want that to change. My senses always on overdrive. Always overwhelmed (happily), always exploring. It’s the dream. I guess NYC will be my home forever…in between wherever the wind takes me. Things happen when you least expect it. But my favorite hour in NYC is before the night. Just as the sun is going down and the light begins to dim. Like here, on Sullivan Street. An hour to meet with friends before going out into the cobblestone shadowed streets. Who really knows where you will end up or who you’ll meet in a New York minute?!

In between the holiday madness, I’m currently dreaming up New Years. I can’t wait for a brand new start. An even better, brighter new year. Like every new year I say, “how can this one top the last?!” but it always does.

KICKING IT

swedennyc2resized

I’ve totally just hit up the sneaker department HARD lately. After wearing so many uncomfortable shoes for years on set for shoots, and walking the streets of NY with bandaged heels, I thought, “I really need to invest in some proper kicks.” They have saved my feet. Not to mention, it’s the perfect excuse to take on classic Swedish style. Just pair something totally classic and chic, dressed down with the perfect beat-up sneaker. Duster coat by Rodebjer (must-have Swedish brand), an embellished mini, and my favorite white tee. Oh, how I miss Stockholm! Where minimalism is key, and effortless is everything. Next to my favorite Pumas, Vans, and Nike sneakers, I’ve also recently went GA-GA over Brit brand Gola who I just shot with for the S/S ’15 campaign. Shop below my favorites.
