TOP BACKSTAGE BEAUTY LOOKS TO RECREATE NOW

It’s backstage at the shows, and when I’m getting my makeup done by the professionals that I get most inspired. Inspired to dig my own hands in the beauty department and experiment with some of the absolute best products out there. Shimmer. Purples. Pinks. Redish black eyeliners, that I didn’t even know existed. All things that shouldn’t be so scary to play with. For my first day of shows, I wanted something super rock n’ roll. I asked my makeup artist, “hmm, what would look incredible with a full sequined blue pant suit?” A sexy, dark eye of course! Done. Of course I arrived backstage at Alexander Wang just moments before show time, but easily revamped my look in the chair within 5 minutes. A super easy shimmered shadow and velvet matte bold lip. Sure it sounds simple enough, but swoon-worthy makeup starts with amazing, quality products. Here, I worked with NARS in mastering stunning, statement looks during fashion week.

Look #1: Easiest way to bring out the colors in your eyes? Black kohl liner. NARS to be specific. Smudged to perfection. It’s fantastic for us green eyed girls. Keep the rest clean and fresh, with a swipe of pale pink lip gloss. Gloss always does the trick when completing a sexy eye look. Oh, and don’t forget to go crazy with the mascara. You’re allowed to here!

Look #2: A pale shadow with a really bold lip. I am in love with NARS’s velvet lip matte lip pencils. This one is in “Pussy Control.” It’s a gorgeous deep plum. It’s seriously all you need with a bare face. But if you do want a little something-something on your lids, do a little liner on your top lids with a swipe of pale pink eyeshadow. Done and done.

NYFW DAY 7: THE ART OF ANNA SUI

The last day of NYFW calls for my favorite look and favorite show: Anna Sui. The colors she uses are just so rich. It’s like walking out of a different time period, or should I say a different time zone. I always feel a 70’s inspiration from her designs, but this time there was  a bit of 1920’s flapper influence combined with a Victorian twist thanks to the added ruffled necklines and fluffy cuffs. Like most of Anna’s shows, it’s never one point of inspiration that goes into each piece. It seems each design comes from a mix of decades, to be interpreted anyway you choose. The way she mixes styles and inspiration look seamless and effortless. Dresses in prints with matching printed tights and sparkling platform sandals. Belts cinched so perfectly around the waists of iridescent green and red dresses. Iridescence was a huge theme in this show in particular. A perfect mix of bold color, metallics, and flowing fabrics that were pleasing on the eyes. Her vintage inspired hemlines, necklines, and ruffled sleeves are so eclectic rock n’ roll. I feel proud wearing her pieces every single season. They just make me want to dance, sing, and move with the wind! Pieces where I can let my personality shine without saying a word. Now that’s art.

NYFW DAY 6: TWO OF A KIND

Sister! Hey, sister! Some of the best moments of fashion week are captured with your buddy. Why would you want to experience this wild ride alone? The stressful last minute call times. Changing outfits in the back of your uber. Disrupting the local pizza parlor with our high energy. We make every season fun with memories to look back on. Dylana and I are basically attached at the hip and even if we’re out either shopping or pulling for a shoot, we always reach for the same piece at the same time. We laugh at the same jokes. We read each other’s minds. It’s a sister thing I guess. This time, we fell in love with the Alice + Olivia bright colored trousers for the presentation this season. Red and blue. They’re so bold and such a statement that I kept the rest of my look pretty minimal with a Cher Horowitz inspired fuzzy tank and classic white blouse. The houndstooth coat is an old Miu Miu find from seasons ago, yet it never seems to have gone out of style. I topped it off with a beret taken from Dylana’s closet. Luckily, she lets me share her clothes.
