Free Bird

(Photos and Video by Dylana Suarez)

You probably can tell I love the whole boho, free spirited look consisting of messy locks and long flowing skirts. With the perfectly warm weather, it feels only appropriate to wear a lightweight tank top by Denise Focil for Aplinestars along with a vintage maxi skirt. I honestly cannot get all things maroon! I found it in a thrift shop over on Fairfax and of course I had to buy it. Someone slap me and get me into wearing a different shade!

Anyways, Dylana and I ventured over to an old open field by a church. It was more like a deserted baseball field and somewhat of a playground (which really was just a broken seesaw and barbie truck). Makes for an interesting location you see lol. With absolutely no one around, it was the perfect place to frolic about, get a little dirt in my boots, and create this short video. We got sent a flip cam and decided to test it out. Simply took a few quick clips as the sun was setting, mashed them all together, and threw in some good old mellow music. All done in just under an hour (not so bad for us newcomers). My hand still has numbers written all over it from trying to jot down notes while cutting/editing and incorporating sound ( hopefully this gets easier with time?)…but it was all worth it in the end. So there you have it, my first outfit video!

Also, I have updated my site by tagging/uploading my photos with Tag Loudly. Simply drag your mouse over my first picture and you can see the details to my look! Exposed

Photograpy: Dylana Suarez

Wearing a burgundy Rory Beca Spring ’11 blouse.

Here I am photographed by my wonderful and totally multitalented sister Dylana. Gaahh I cannot believe she can simply pick up a camera any time, any place and create such beautiful photographs…with absolutely no training. And she makes it so easy on me. She tells me to just “stand here…and move around a little.” Being the good little sister that I am, I do what I am told, and voila… she creates art in less than 5 minutes. I’m shocked at their vulnerability and rawness. Completely natural and ethereal. Just the way I like them.

Chains of Love

(H&M tee, Vintage trousers, Cole Haan sandals, Chains of Love bracelet)

The heat we have been having here in California leaves me soo sleepy and lazy. Here I am hanging out on my front porch after a long day out in the sun. Playing around with the different settings of my camera, I ended up with some fun little detailed shots of my Chains of Love bracelet which is so rad that it connects as a ring; a nice big toe thumbs up shot (sorry to all that despise all things feets); as well a random portrait of my possibly half dead? geraniums glistening in the sun. More importantly, it has been warm enough to whip out these bad boys, of which you might remember: the sandals that have gone everywhere with me the last year…from Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore, and back. I love these babies and am praying they don’t fall apart. I’m still on the prowl for another pair that will treat me just as well as these have. Also, currently sporting the Guns ‘n Roses tee that I refuse to part with no matter how ratty and faded it gets, along with a great pair of French maroon trousers. This is my lazy weekend look… you can never go wrong with loose layers topped off with a big floppy hat!

Also, check out my interview with one of my good friends, Shamime Shaw, here on her new fashion blog: Cloth Culture! There are some photos she took of me a while back as well as some info on my cultural background!
