2 DAYS AT THE HOTEL CARMEL

From Los Angeles, we took the 5 hour drive up Highway 1 to the beautiful Carmel, California. I was beyond excited. The northern coast of California is purely magical. There really is no place like it. This was a very different New Year’s vacation. It was definitely a lot more calming than the crazy New Years Eve house parties happening down in LA. So we did things a little differently this year. We checked in at The Hotel Carmel, just on the corner of 4th street and San Carlos. This boutique hotel is the perfect place to de-stress and de-compress. Being a short walk from the beach and town, it’s a place where you simply wake up, grab a coffee, go on your balcony to stretch, and take some relaxing deep breathes. For me, it’s actually sooo nice not to have a packed itinerary. Back home in NYC, it seems everything is just non-stop. I love any place where you’re just close enough to civilization, culture, food, and the beach but still feels so secluded. We spend the days driving down Highway 1, soaking in all of it’s natural wonders. The fog rolling over the cliffs. The waves crashing against giant, beautiful rocks. Driving from Carmel to Big Sur is like driving through a painting. You kind of have to pinch yourself to be convinced that it’s all real. As the rain started to patter on our windows, we got back to the hotel just at wine hour. So intimate and homey, that you kind of feel like you’re a guest in someone’s living room. We became friends with a ton of international guests. It was really fun listening to their stories of why they often come back to Carmel…of all the places in the world! Most people had little love stories with this city that made it a must-have pitstop amongst their USA travels. We met people from Spain, Australia, and even London, who find Carmel to be a little bit like their home away from home. It’s a place where all you have on your agenda is a fantastic Italian dinner in town, followed with a jump in the hot tub by the fire pit. A really good getaway always starts with a great hotel.

MEET THE PHOEBE

It’s so hard finding the perfect blue jean that has that vintage feel. No added stretch, just love. Meet the Phoebe by AG Jeans. A cropped frayed hem, high waist, and total butt-hugging perfection. I’ve got 2 more days in LA and I’m savoring every moment back in my hometown. Dy and I are actually headed to the AG factory to see how some of our favorite jeans are made. I love getting an inside peek on the process. The washes, the cuts, and design. It’s always such a unique learning experience. Really good denim is part of my California-girl DNA. We grew up in denim-on-denim, vintage Wranglers, and full-on flares from Limited Too with leopard stripes down the side. We were the tomboys off of Wilshire Blvd. Them jeans though.

STEPPING INTO THE NEW YEAR RIGHT

art-basel-miami-5

Currently writing from the Hotel Carmel on the Northern coast in California. I’m so excited to explore this charming little beach town and drive up to the cliffs of Big Sur….even on a rainy New Years holiday. To work from somewhere so calm and relaxing is amazing, before I have to jump back into the crazy NYC groove. These little getaways always get me focused and re-energized for another amazing year to come. A place to fully disconnect. Like here, in some of my favorite looks from Art Basel in Miami. Looks like I’ll be flying back to warmer climates for a shoot in a few weeks before hopping straight into the cold, cold fashion month. I’m savoring these last few days of staring deep into the ocean. Be right back.

HOLIDAYS UNWRAPPED

armani-holidays-3

I can still hear the Christmas carols playing whether I’m walking down 5th Avenue or when strolling down the local mall. Every year and every season just goes by so fast. The crazy buzz of gift giving has finally settled, and now it’s actually time for vacation mode. Boy was picking gifts for my special someones extra stressful this season. My go-to gift every season, for any occasion actually, is fragrance. Each of my friends has a scent. My girly gal pals prefer something subtle with a floral accent for the day, and something more musky for night. The men in my life like something fresh but still masculine. This one by Armani is a mix of Mediterranean air and sun. A beautiful blend of fruit, herb, and wood. What did you unwrap this holiday?
