A Mysterious Mountain

(B.B. Dakota sweater and coat, Stylestalker button-down, James Jeans “High Class Skinnies” in Dark Paris, Thrifted backpack, Feiyue sneakers)
I want to take you back to one of the most beautiful days I’ve had in the longest time. Hiking up the mountains of Woodstock, we picked up two hitch-hikers (who happened to be the cutest couple ever!) before stumbling upon this gorgeous Buddhist temple. I have never seen anything like it. The colorful cloths with written script blowing in the wind, tied to the trees…and not just one row, they were everywhere. From tree to tree surrounding the entire place. It was festive and eery at the same time. What we thought was going to be an easy hike, turned out to be hours long…the higher we got, the colder it got! A sweater, some thick socks, along with my new everyday jean: these high-waisted James Jeans. They really are my dream pair of pants. I wear them cuffed, uncuffed, and with everything from flats to boots, but this time…sneakers, for our hike! Along the way we discovered a torn down old building with staircases, rusted shutters, and all covered in moss. At the top, I was breathless, but it was worth it. We climbed up a tower so old, I was worried it was unstable, but it gave us the best view of all the mountains! The fog made it all the more magical. After we finally made it down, I made a note to snuggle in the seat of the car with the heater blasting on the way back to Woodstock. It felt amazing! This was all before we kept running into the hitchhikers everywhere we went in from then on. The town is so small, I guess it’s only normal to have these encounters! I live for these random adventures…when you make the plans as you go. And everything looks like a movie.
And now for another adventure. Today is my birthday woot woot! I am so excited for a late night celebration in the city with friends, but mostly, I’m beyond excited for my sister to get here! You know it’s going to be crazy when you’ve got two Suarez sisters in the same place! Time for a killer weekend, now that things are slowly falling into place after the hurricane. I’ve got loads to do before my next huge trip, MOROCCO!

The Cheetah Benni

The
is finally here! This is one shoe I’ve been the most excited about, and it’s now perfect! We found just the right ponyhair cheetah to go with the simple, clean lines of the BENNI. This is one pair I’m going to be living in  year round. Right now, Dylana and I are taking it out with tights, or black socks and skinny jeans…but I’m excited for spring, when I can go barelegged with just a tiny dress. We’ve got more shoes being made in the Modern Vice factory here in NYC that are part of our JETT line that I’m excited to show you! Just follow me on Instagram for little sneak peeks here and there on what shoes we’re creating!
All of our Bennis are now available on modernvice.com in fuschia, black, pumpkin, and black ponyhair!

At Eye Level

Lately, my fringe has come to eye-level, and though I find myself moving them out of the way, I still love this overgrown look. I am coming super close to giving these babies a trim. But first, more of my Paul Mitchell curl confessions are here! I spent time upstate in the mountains, so I’ve completely cut down my hair routine. No curlers, no nothing! I didn’t want to waste any time during my stay in Woodstock that and I would only jump in the shower, use the Detangling Shampoo and Conditioner, towel dry, and go. Hippies agree, less is certainly more when it comes to the locks, especially when you can drive with the window’s down to dry off. I’m just extremely happy I didn’t have to come home with dreads again! The crisp air up there is just one other thing that keeps everything falling into place.

This month, upload your own #curlconfession photo to Paul Mitchell, to be projected live in the Bowery of NYC and also in LA on the 15th (6pm EST)! It’s going to be rad.

Follow the Signs

(B.B. Dakota coat, Vintage wool sweater, Supertrash lace dress, Ax+Apple necklace, Giles + Brother cuff gold cuff, Vintage cuff, Stela 9 bag, “Natalie + Dylana Suarez x Modern Vice” cheetah Benni boots)
Driving back into Woodstock, we followed a group of long haired hippies hippies holding signs pointing to the local flea market. Pass the guitarist at the entrance, we saw rows of old trucks and vans with all their little goodies laid out. Can you say heaven? Everyone was from a different part of town. Some were clearly farmers, some handcrafted all their stuff, and others just had loads of junk! I immediately fell for a cuff, straight out of the 70’s, and a tiny pinky ring. It’s so delicate, I’m still afraid to wear it out in fear of it slipping off for good. I also picked up yet another embroidered backpack! With the Bob Marley colors that I love stitched down the front, it was another piece I had to have. Though we were planning on a hike, I still felt the need to dress up a bit. Bring on the furry red coat! This baby hasn’t really left my nyc apartment since last winter and it was about time I take it for a little spin in the woods. What also made it in my suitcase? Our brand spankin’ new Modern Vice cheetah BENNI boot! Freshly made in the NYC factory, they are mint. Even with a little dirt on them, they’re absolutely stunning. Looks like the factory is up and running again tomorrow, after this crazy hurricane! Bring on the BENNIS and JETTS. I can’t wait for life to get back to normal. For now, I’ll be unwrapping all my Woodstock goodies.
