The Stone House

The mountain house was covered in pink carpet, the windows were gigantic, and in every little corner, there’s a wooden chair…perfect for gazing out overhead. The place hasn’t changed much since the 1800’s and I love it that way. I patiently awaited the sunset. It’s supposed to be absolutely gorgeous on our side of the stone house. My boyfriend and I were so excited, that we were sitting on our balcony, hours before it was even supposed to set. Our timing was completely off, but we waited it out, and I have to say, it was one of the most beautiful things I ever saw. I can’t wait to show you some of my other shots I’ve taken from our trip. Some of the boy. Some of the lush. Here I’m wearing a striped dress from one of my favorite designers, Lauren Moffatt, and of course, paired this beauty with a gorgeous dainty sandal. I wore these in the city, and someone even told me they’ve never seen me in such girly shoes! I do have that side in me that wants to be extra feminine at times. These Swedish Hasbeens peep-toes are so good. I think I even walk a different way when I’m in them. One of my best friends thinks I’ve lately been so 80’s Berlin…with the over the shoulder square bag and moto jacket. I guess she’s right, I have been going the simpler route this past week.

Paddling Out

After work this past week, my boyfriend and I decided we needed a little getaway. Sometimes the city can feel like a grid…taking the same subways, walking the same streets. Everyone here needs a little escape every once in while. We googled a place that was far, but not so far away. Maybe just a 2 hour drive outside the city. I love a good roadtrip, one to blast music, and slowly see the high concrete buildings of the NYC fade, and then, be greeted by lots of green and lush on the drive upstate. Jordan and I ended up in the mountains of Mohonk (honk honk!) And in it’s old stone house on the mountain! The floors were a bit creaky, we had a wood fireplace, but best of all, our little wooden abode faced the gorgeous green of the mountains below, and a sky so blue. At first, the place was so oldschool that I got a strange vibe, with the rocking chairs, and dark wooden shutters. Slowly, it became more and more welcoming and beautiful. I fell in love with the whole place. I could spend hours squinting in the sun lying on the grass, or sitting on the deck to overlook the lake. How could this place be so close to the city? But it is, and it’s so rad that I’d literally go back again just for another day or two. I just wasn’t sure what to pack for the mountains. We weren’t sure what we’d end up doing…hiking, or just being out by the water! I brought a mix of pieces. Some ripped jeans, oversize tunics, cable knit sweaters, a leather jacket, and of course a few hats. My new favorite piece in my whole closet is this tiny pair of Warby Parker blue lensed sunnies. Shaped like something found on Yoko or John, I spotted them in their newe 121 Greene Street store. I definitely brought a bit of the city out to the quiet mountain top!

Beach and Back

Now being back in NYC, I do miss those California sunsets. The way it seeps through the leaves behind this church. The smoke of barbeque making it’s way through the fence. The All-American hot summer nights, worthy of staying up until the sun rises. My friends and I here in New York are already planning out our Memorial Day weekend get-away, before everything’s suddenly booked. We’re thinking lots of beach, sand, and a bit of bronzer. I mean, why not?! I’m ready to bring back the little fringed tops, and sheer tie-dye flares. Pieces to throw over a bikini. Here, I’ve just come home from Venice Beach the other week, and came to this little spot. It’s where Dylana and I would always come to shoot after a long day’s work back in LA. The light is always extremely angelic, and it brings back floods of memories from our youth…jumping over fences of the empty parking lots, to just to get that shot. I still love sneaking back there now, when nobody’s looking.

Back in the NYC Groove

Here is just a sneaky peek into some of my latest work and a few of the little in-betweens (yep, that’s the beautiful tree house I was talking about!) I’m finally back in NYC, and already, I’ve barely had a moment to breath. From fittings to meetings, I’m been uptown and  downtwon about a million times already this week, but it’s all been worth the never ending go, go, go. Here is just a teeny tiny peek into my shoots for Glamour, and also with my Italian mates at Dolce & Gabbana, flown all the way here from Milano for our shoot! I’m continually inspired from all these people I meet and get to work with. I got to be Sicilian for a day shooting on location with Dolce & Gabbana, teetering about in my super high D&G stilettos. But it’s beautiful out…Spring is when everyone starts wanting to finally get back to shooting outside. The early morning sun hits my face in bed at 6 a.m. and the beautiful pink and white cherry blossoms are always brightening up my walks. Nights call for laughter, tacos, and wobbly strolls in my clogs down in Soho with the best mates. I love getting to call this city my home.
