NYFW DAY 4: FENDI NEUTRALS

nyfw-fendi-natalie-lim-suarez-11

I’m in love with my Fendi Spring ’17 look, straight off the runway. Amazing knitted sock booties with a beautiful flowing dress, and nude bag. Check out the heels on these Fendi bad boys! They’re striped! I threw on some leather leggings, and voila, I made my Fendi Spring ’17 look fully prepped for these cold weeks in NYC. The collection is extra quirky and cheeky. It’s an unexpected take on luxurious neutrals. Do a play on textures in neutral palettes as a way to make a statement this season without having to walk out of the house dressed like a rainbow. But trust me, I do love my rainbows.

But as always, fashion week gets me thinking beyond just the outfits. We’re so “go, go go” that sometimes it’s nice to talk amongst ourselves about how much fashion week is actually changing. Bloggers are taking over the front row, and it’s amazing that our perspectives really do matter. Even in what feels like a saturated space, it’s amazing seeing my OG girls killing it in our industry…from walking the catwalk to taking over backstage. I’m talking about the girls from 2010 who made something out of nothing…creating careers and jobs with longevity that never existed 5 or 10 years ago. It’s exciting to be a huge part of this change and evolving with it. There’s room for everyone in this space. Designers are a lot more selective with how they’re doing their shows, who is going to their shows, and they’ve become a lot more wise on who their customer is thanks to bloggers and social media. Lately, I have been stressing the importance of quality versus quantity. I don’t care if you have a million instagram followers or the best seat at a fashion show. The blogging community is about daring to be you and using your voice to inspire and be inspired through everything you put out there. Even if that means making the world your literal runway for a day.

BORN, BRED, BE

beverly-hills-natalie-suarez-natalie-off-duty-street-style-11

I am indeed Los Angeles born and bred. I’ll drive an hour to Alhambra from the West Side just for a good bowl of pho. I’ll listen to my old high school cd’s on repeat in my little blue Prius. I’ll go through the drive through at Taco Bell just for that midnight bean and cheese (and take crazy videos). Yes, I’ll park where I shouldn’t park, and I just may go over the speed limit every once in a while. I’ll sit on the keyboard all day long in the music room, and plug in my microphone, belting as if I’m performing for hundreds of thousands of people…just like I did when I was little. I’ll go through my college books that haven’t been touched in years in my bedroom, and read the those novels with the notes in it over and over again. I’ll make any excuse to meet in Santa Monica because I love that city by the sea so darn much. I’ll do anything to get the perfect photo, to capture the most perfect moment. I’ll still wake up at 6am to go to a good Beverly Hills Estate Sale just to get first dibs on the designer coat before the next girl gets it. I’ll forever slip out my Valley “as if” accent. I’ll still consider everything “epic”, “sick”, and “rad”. I’ll always find a way to make fun of a situation.

But most of all, I’ll always have my Los Angeles friends and family. We could be sitting in my dining room table (friends, mom, dad, and the whole crew), and talk about absolutely anything and everything. I love my kooky characters. Like the city itself, it’s like you never left. That time didn’t change a thing. That I haven’t really been on the east coast for already 5 years. That I’m about to call myself a true New Yorker…for real. Your true friends will always remember you purely as you. As “Natalie”, or littler” (little sister), and love you just because they do…and always will no matter what happens. Your real friends and loved ones love you as you are. As you be and let you be. So it’s important to be you. Be genuine and real. Being in touch with your roots always keeps you in check. Don’t let go of those people who are always there for you, and don’t ever change. I haven’t, and you shouldn’t either. LA has those people, moments, and memories I’ll always hold on to. Just like the Pacific Ocean. Constantly changing, the waves in and out, but it’ll always be there to welcome you home. Los Angeles, I love you.

SISTER SWIRLS – NYC to SEOUL

fashion-month-natalie-suarez-5

Dylana and I love to take our 70’s inspired favorites and mix it in with our minimals. I loved this look from NYFW. It’s cozy enough to wear time and time again. Those psychadelic swirls, nubby leather coats, and Dy’s extra pink sunnies. I’m currently in SEOUL, South Korea, for their fashion week (who would have thought it’d still be fashion week in the month of October?!) and I’m super inspired by what we’ve been seeing on the runways. Eclectic layering. Boyish blazers. Simplistic street style. There’s everything here. But what I’m loving most is the Korean bbq and killer face masks (ever heard of a broccoli or snail muccus face mask?!) Stay tuned.

EVERYTHING OVERSIZE

nyfw-natalie-suarez-9

This may be one of my favorite looks from fashion week, mostly because everything was extremely oversized. But most of all, extremely comfortable. And I want to wear it again because I just feel awesome in it. My friend Ashley, founder of the shop ANTHOM, always says she picks things to wear that make her think “this is how I want to live my life.” It’s true. We should only choose to wear what makes you feel so damn good that you feel you can conquer anything.

Wearing sneakers to the shows admidst a sea of high heels now may be the most effortless thing ever. And this gorgeous leather duster and wide-leg pant just feel so luxe. Every fashion week I whip out my Breelayne because her eclectic but classic styles always draw my attention. I dressed everything down with my favorite t-shirt that I sleep in and go out in. Nude hues are everywhere this fall, and I like to give mine a bit of a pop. With black and whites, and a bright stained berry lip by Stila (I swear by their cosmetics). I’m sure this duster will be popping up on the blog again. I mean, it’s that yummy.

For now, I’m planning my upcoming travels. Seoul – San Francisco – LA.
