BEAUTY AND HOPE | ST. MAARTEN

I just rediscovered all of these unpublished photos from my latest trip to St. Maarten and couldn’t help but share them during New York City’s coldest weekend to send a little sunshine your way. Boy, I can’t wait until the return of summer. It was June. Butterflies were zooming by everywhere we turned. The orange blossoms of the Flamboyant trees covered the sidewalks. The water was absolute heaven on earth. The French/Dutch culture gave this island a flare that just oozed chic. I had an incredible time shooting here, meeting it’s people, and becoming one with it’s surroundings. Since Hurricane Irma hit it’s shores, it’s hard to believe that so much of it has been blown away. It may be a while until the island can get back on it’s feet. Though the island has gone through a lot of disaster and sadness in these past few months, there is still so much hope. I believe St. Maarten will come back stronger and more beautiful than ever. For now, all I have are my memories and some of the most beautiful images to grace the blog. I can’t wait to visit again.

IN A VINTAGE YSL

Meet my new vintage YSL blazer…a piece I’ll keep forever. I still have so much excitement for consignment shopping. This is a piece I found on Vestiaire. It was shipped in from Paris, and completely worth hours on the site, digging. I grew up going to estate sales back home in Los Angeles so I know what it’s like to dig, dig, dig for the perfect surprise piece. I really miss it and try to do a weekend route through Beverly Hills and Santa Monica if I’m ever home in Los Angeles. The items I found were incredible, and literally came down to 5 bucks for a killer coat. It’s funny but I think I really did find my style back then when I was younger…shopping on a bargain. I have this thing where I love making something old feel brand new again. Right now, I’m into boyish everything. Oversize trousers. Boxy blazers. Dr. Marten boots. Crew neck sweaters. Anything you would see on an Olsen twin. Pile it on baby. This was shot on a much warmer day back in London. I’m really back home in NYC sprawled out on my couch. We’re having a real SNOW DAY. What does that mean? School’s out. Work’s closed. Meetings have been postponed to tomorrow. I can finally catch up on everything I need via email. There really is something lovely and relaxing about a snow day. This beautiful vintage YSL piece will have to make it’s second appearance on sunnier days.

A CUTE COAT MAKES UP FOR COLD WEATHER

The year is already starting off crazy as I plan with my team for upcoming projects and travel. I haven’t looked away from my calendar all morning. For now, I am in the city, keeping warm, drinking hot cocoa, and taking meetings to kick off the new year. Days are bundled up while my nights are indoors, snuggled under a blanket. Less people are out crawling the streets, more people are hitting the gym, and the only thing buzzing seems to be the restaurants and bars that are steaming at the windows…heaters on full blast. Winters in the city mean surviving with very cute coats…cute beanies…and cute outerwear. It’s easy getting dressed when you have the perfect essentials. This beautiful pink coat is a favorite of mine this season. I’ve always wanted a bold piece that is so uniquely glamorous yet wearable. It’s so soft to the touch. I just threw it on over a cable knit, wide-leg trousers, and sock sneakers. When you have 20 minutes to get ready during the week…this is a go-to. The little melon green bag, a perfect little pop. When in doubt, think oversize coat and tiny bag. I’m taking the rest of my day to step away from my desk. I think the brisk, crisp air will feel really wake me up and energize me for the day.

THAT’S A WRAP 2017

In 2017, I discovered my strength and my freedom. I finally feel like I can do anything I set my mind to. It’s a powerful thing. There are no more doubts. I wake up feeling the need to grow and discover. In 2018, I look forward to more days of gratitude. More days of thanks. More days of wow, we did this. Wow, we created this. More days of overcoming fears. More days of knowledge. More moments of clarity. More days of happiness. I feel full taking a second to look back at the year. Never have I felt more grateful for my sister Dylana, most of which here, these moments were shared. We have a bond that will live on forever. With each new year, we push each other to be the best, happiest version of ourselves, no matter how challenging it may be. It’s so important to have someone in your life who without a doubt, will always be on your team. Thanks to Team Suarez, these dreams were made possible: walking the Rebecca Minkoff runway show…sweeping Paris Fashion Week with super French chic Sandro… gracing the glossy international pages of ELLE, Vogue, and more… walking by my very own O’Neill campaign billboard in Huntington Beach…shooting for M Missoni in the English countryside…creating whimsy magic for Gucci…hopping through every single live show during festival season from Indio to Nashville…doing as the Italians do at Milan Fashion Week…and relaxing unplugged moments on the beaches of Tulum and St. Maarten. With all the craziness in between, it’s important for me to stop every single night and write down what I’m grateful for each day. Right now, I’m grateful for all of you. I feel your love and support every single day. You guys bring so much positivity in my work…I’ll never forget this community I’ve called home for about a decade now. Thanks for growing with me.
