After Tulum, the girls and I wanted a place to really disconnect and decompress. After a week on our feet, and traveling by bike, we were ready for a little r&r. A place to literally be able to sit on a hammock, read a book, and sleep. Here we are at the super secluded Fairmont Mayakoba Riviera Maya in Mexico, just a few hours drive from Tulum. We’re talking dinner at the chefs table, private plunge pools, and extra deep tissue massages at the spa. This is resort life on a whole new level.

And of course, resort life in the most non-cheesy way, luckily. Sophisticated and elevated. I count on Fairmont for a ton of my travels…for work or play. My love for Fairmont began at the Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica, California, where I grew up. I’d get lost in their backyard…running between the canopies and lying under some of the oldest and biggest oak trees in town. I’d hide in the luxurious lobby behind the giant flower vases, and play hide and seek with my friends. I just remember it always being one of most beautiful hotels in the city, with so much history and life. Mayakoba gave off the same feeling…extra posh with that constant need to wander. Sure you may not want to leave your luscious 2 story room (complete with a plunge pool and swoon-worthy balcony), but I spent tons of time exploring the property. Countless hours by our pool and out on the paddle boards, while the rest of our stay was spent in and around the kitchen. The chefs table was perfect. Casual and fun. It was like hanging out with old friends (except your friends do the cooking as you casually sip your glass of bubbly). The chef actually joined us for the meal. He shared his tales of growing up in Mexico, and getting to taste every dish from all over the world from Europe to Asia, but still coming home to this one simple dish that never ceases to amaze his clientele: a whole fish, butter and garlic potatoes, and grilled Mexican pumpkin stuffed with cheese. Yep, I just discovered Mexican pumpkin and already, I am obsessed. It’s not too sweet…it’s just right. Sometimes food doesn’t have to be so complicated. Why are things always best in their most simplest and most sweet form? Here’s to that…a more simple and sweet life. Let’s not forget the bikinis and all of the laughter.
