I got to become a mermaid for the launch of Anna Sui’s Fantasia Mermaid fragrance launch. Iridescent with a mix of sea foam green and blue. Dreamy. This is one fragrance that lets my imagination run wild all summer long and I had so much fun shooting this campaign by the water in my home of Dumbo, Brooklyn. Sweet, floral, and fruity, it’s made for waterfront picnics. I’m also featuring my top two favorite looks straight from the Anna Sui Spring 2019 Ready-to-Wear runway. This is one runway show that really makes my heart skip a beat. It’s always one of the very last shows during NYFW, and it takes me back to the 60’s. The music. The colors. The hair. Always rock n’ roll, mysterious, and eclectic. There’s no other designer like her and I think that’s what makes her an icon. Dylana and I have loved her for years and years as young girls and to now work with her and be a part of her vision is a dream. Here I am, running late into the sunset, off to claim my seat at Anna Sui’s NYFW show this season…in nothing but Anna, of course. This is my dream evening look. So unique. So rock n’ roll. A glamorous gold lamé twin set (a fabric Anna Sui uses in almost every collection) adorned with plush velvet roses. The way the metallic glistens in the sun and the way the skirt moves with every step is magic. The sleeves became my wings for the evening. Anna Sui, I worship you! Thank you for taking me into another world and another time with every extraordinary design. Take a little front row peek at the Anna Sui S/S ’18. We’re talking peace and love, to the max. Her stars and moons and florals are a burst of color from a new world. Complete with folk music and daisy face paint. I like to dream in her clothes and escape. I start to play characters and new roles whenever I’m in her clothes. In this gold ensemble, I’m mentally dancing in a jazz cafe on a perfect NYC night in the 1920’s.

I have so much from fashion month to catch you up on….like all of the un-featured looks and in-flight skincare routines. In reality, my sparkling dresses need a little break…I am so ready to live in PJ’s for an entire month. Not really, but you know what I mean. I went from Milan Fashion Week to the English countryside for a shoot, LA for the annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, and now I’m sitting bed at midnight typing away from the Nobu Shoreditch Hotel in Shoreditch. Jetlag much?! But I can’t stop smiling. This season has been incredibly memorable so far. With very little sleep, Team Suarez certainly lived it up and killed it. I’m very ready for a proper and humble fall back home in New York City with my family and friends. Halloween and Thanksgiving will be here before we know it.

Dylana and I grew up wearing Anna Sui…she is one of the main reasons we fell into fashion. I find it so beautiful the way she can tie in culture, rock n’ roll, and different eras into a single look. Her runway show is my favorite every single season. I’m always blown away with her eclectic touch and out-of-this-world imagination when it comes to design and style. You can tell Anna has a serious love for music, always making vintage rock n’ roll trends new again. I hear a string of Jimi Hendrix’s guitar and a roar of Janis Joplin’s voice whenever I shimmy into one of her amazing metallic dresses. Her designs always feel a bit mysterious… they certainly have a darkness to them, with a whole lot of quirky cool. I can spot an Anna Sui design and print from a mile away. They’re unlike anything I’ve seen out there. Her latest collections have been a mix of the wild, wild west with a romantic touch. I’m so excited that Anna Sui has collaborated with INC International Concepts, a brand at Macy’s to make her unique designs even more attainable. They feel straight off the runway, yet super wearable. Trust me, this is one collaboration you’re not going to want to miss out on.

Take this gorgeous Anna Sui x INC International Concepts teal sheer blouse for example. It’s the ultimate fall piece to layer or simply wear alone. The print alone makes a statement. I paired it with the Anna Sui x INC trousers, something Dylana and I both are a huge fan of. And they’re not just any classic black trouser. They’ve got a western waist belt, and a sporty jogger stripe down the leg. The only designer who can pull this off and make it work is Anna. Genius! Dylana and I literally mixed and matched the entire collection. Denim mules and velvet heels. Embroidered and studded clutches. Earrings so big and twinkling, they’re destined to make a statement on the dance floor. And you know how much us Suarez Sisters love to dance. Oh, and we like to stand out. This collection is just that. It reminds me of the old cowboy town we grew up in, mixed with the elegance and sophistication of NYC. The Anna Sui x INC capsule at Macy’s is adorned in both metallics and fringe. Dresses and tops that resemble the walls of the velvet underground in the 1970’s. Made to move, and twinkle under the disco ball. Stevie Nicks and Mick Jagger approved. I gravitate towards fringe, straw hats, and the sunny side of the road. I guess growing up in an old cowboy town of Los Angeles County made me a fan of driving the open road alongside acres of farm land. Oh, and there’s the heat. Nothing beats the feel of that dry heat warming my face the moment I step off the airplane.

It’s true that Tennessee brings out the cowgirl in me. It’s ok to get a little bit country sometimes, what’s not to love? New Orleans -> Alabama -> Charleston. There’s still so much to discover. More mosquito bites. More skinny dips in the local lakes. More barbeque pit-stops. More evenings falling over at my favorite Nashville karaoke bar, WannaB’s. A place to clack your boots and unleash your inner country star. I was certainly dressed the part here in Manchester, Tennessee outside the Bonnaroo festival grounds, where we were photographing and filming for my other California natives, Teva. I paired my ultimate travel sandal with a metallic Anna Sui dress and oversize hat by my surfer gals at Roxy. This little getup certainly stopped traffic alongside the quiet stretch of corn fields. Looks like this town has never seen so much fringe since Elvis Presley.

The last day of NYFW calls for my favorite look and favorite show: Anna Sui. The colors she uses are just so rich. It’s like walking out of a different time period, or should I say a different time zone. I always feel a 70’s inspiration from her designs, but this time there was  a bit of 1920’s flapper influence combined with a Victorian twist thanks to the added ruffled necklines and fluffy cuffs. Like most of Anna’s shows, it’s never one point of inspiration that goes into each piece. It seems each design comes from a mix of decades, to be interpreted anyway you choose. The way she mixes styles and inspiration look seamless and effortless. Dresses in prints with matching printed tights and sparkling platform sandals. Belts cinched so perfectly around the waists of iridescent green and red dresses. Iridescence was a huge theme in this show in particular. A perfect mix of bold color, metallics, and flowing fabrics that were pleasing on the eyes. Her vintage inspired hemlines, necklines, and ruffled sleeves are so eclectic rock n’ roll. I feel proud wearing her pieces every single season. They just make me want to dance, sing, and move with the wind! Pieces where I can let my personality shine without saying a word. Now that’s art.

Inbetween fittings and last-minute meetings today, I’m gearing up for the ultimate FRIENDSGIVING. One of my very first Thanksgivings away from home. We’re thinking whipping up some yam potatoes, and baking my very first homemade pie. EEKS. I’ll keep you posted.
