MY 8TH COACHELLA ACCOMPLISHED | BB DAKOTA

Coachella is my way of kicking off spring. The heat. The sun. I absolutely love the energy and togetherness that Coachella brings each year to Palm Springs. Plus, it’s the perfect excuse to extend my work trip to Los Angeles. More pool time please! I counted with Dylana and this is our 8th Coachella in a row since 2011. Not much has changed, yet I still manage to make each year feel like it’s brand new again. Early mornings are spent by the pool. Afternoons are spent at brunch or a hotel day party. Nights are spent hopping between shows. Palm Springs has it’s busiest weekend of all time, bringing in bands from all over the world. This time? Revolve Festival, Coachella, and Neon Carnival all in a single night. I’ve seen many of the bands over and over again around the US at different festivals that I’m beginning to know the lyrics by heart. Borns, Haim, and Migos to name a few. Boy was I party pooped!  And it’s all happening again right now, this weekend for Coachella weekend two.

Right on for those who can do all that fun in the sun two weekends in a row. I’m taking a breather instead! But since many of us are still in festival mode or planning to hit up Bonnaroo or Lollapalooza later this year, here’s a round up of some festival looks to get you prepared. BB Dakota partnered up with Dylana and I this season, and I swear I saw girls wearing the latest collection at every single event I went to out in Palm Springs. We also hosted their pre-festival bash at their LA headquarters. It was a pretty special night. So many amazing ladies came out to support and shopped the line. This denim overall dress and BB Dakota top/skirt combination were the it looks this festival season. These easy pieces are perfect for festival season because it’s hot, you’re on your feet, and you just want something easy and light to dance in. It’s awesome to see how many babes were sporting BB Dakota! I couldn’t help but take photos! I took my favorite BB Dakota go-tos and gave it my own twist with a little layering. Festival season is all about the freedom to wear and do whatever you want. Glitter? Why not. Denim? Necessary.

ON THE GO IN MILANO

Milan this past Milan Fashion Week was the coldest it’s ever felt for me. This huge shearling coat was my best friend this past season…that along with a great pair of tights and over-the-knee boots. Now that I’m living in tee-shirts and jeans here in Los Angeles, I forget how much I adore these luxurious textures and pieces in my closet. I kept myself super busy with fashion week appointments and shows, which made me somewhat forget how brutally chilly it was outside. My rule: keep moving. As an LA native, I am shocked at how well I handle these intense winters. Maybe it’s because I literally never stop. My mind is always elsewhere…the weather will just have to do!

Some of my Milan highlights this season were Bally and Tommy Hilfiger. Completely different, yet both relatable to my style. Bally felt fresh and youthful this season, with a classic 70’s twist with bright red shearling collars and retro black chelsea boots. It was a very sleek and sophisticated take on vintage classics. Tommy’s show was on the sporty, All-Americana side of the spectrum. Think biker shorts and striped race car driver moto jackets and leather pants. I left Milan feeling inspired as ever, though the jet lag was officially kicking in. Despite crazy weather, we explored, we ate, and we met a lot of wonderful people. I even got to do the lucky spin for the first time ever in the heart of the Duomo! I am just happy to look back and see we’ve survived one very intense and very cold fashion month. Since then, I’ve been traveling again yet taking things a little bit slower. I’m home in LA this weekend. It’s a good 90 degrees and I’ll be by the pool and hot tub for most of the afternoon. All that hard work and travel has really paid off. Time to enjoy what the new season has to offer.

TIME TO UNWIND: AQUA WELLNESS RESORT NICARAGUA

The best place to unwind: at our treehouse at the Aqua Wellness Resort in Nicaragua. My sister recommended we head there with our group for a full 7 night stay of total relaxation. I’m not used to staying a week in any one spot when I’m traveling. I’m used to going here and there and around the world for only few days at a time before heading home to NYC or LA. Sometimes, I don’t like being away from home for over a week, but this time, I needed it. It was my first time at the resort and it was incredible. Trust me, I needed the downtime and little escape because lately, I’ve been working so much. A getaway from the cold city was just what was needed.

Mornings were spent on the yoga platform followed by afternoons dipping in our plunge pool, soaking in the stunning views of our bay. At night, we were either sleeping on a hammock or paddle boarding out into the sunset. It was a balanced combination of being on our feet, working our muscles, followed by total relaxation. My body has never felt better. My skin suddenly felt better. Plus, I was eating a lot healthier than usual. Think mornings of banana cocoa smoothies and dragonfruit bowls. We would slowly indulge in the occasional Toña beer before dinner. Here, we shot at our Sapote villa…2 suites with an amazing outdoor kitchen and even, an outdoor shower. We had a lot of time to hop between the Aqua Wellness beach and the neighboring Playa Gigante beach, but sometimes, we just really wanted to simply relax on our balcony with a good book. The best part was getting to catch up with old friends that I only get to see once or twice a year. These sorts of getaways are necessary for the mind, body, and soul.

1 PANT BY BANANA REPUBLIC, 2 WAYS

1 pant, 2 ways…

There is something so wonderful about tomboy basics. When I got out of the water here in Nicaragua, I spent a lot of time hanging out in my treehouse in this look: an amazing Banana Republic crew knit, denim jacket, and tuxedo pant. Our spot in Nicaragua was barefoot luxury at it’s core. The best thing about this look is that it moves and it breathes. I could sit in this exact spot all day, curled up in a ball in my rocking chair with the most incredible view of our bay. The monkeys would come and go throughout the day. The birds constantly saying hello on my doorstep each morning. Nicaragua is wonderful in that it feels untouched. Beautiful in it’s most raw and natural state. It’s in the spring that I gravitate towards simplicity in both my surroundings and what I put on my body. These wild escapes always make me feel closer to earth.

Then, there is my city style. I am a woman who feels powerful in a pair of good pants and it’s funny, I don’t travel anywhere without a classic pair. Back in the city, this simple tomboy look immediately transitions into business woman chic with just a popping pair of platform heels and my favorite Banana Republic trench. There will always be the ease from my tropical travels that translate into my city uniform…think salty beach waves and a tangerine lip. By minimizing my wardrobe down to it’s very essentials, I start to look at my classics with a whole new perspective, giving it new life.
