Remember the denim suits Britney and Justin wore at the American Music Awards over 15 years ago? I’m kind of obsessed with it. This is my own take on 90’s denim. Jocelyn just launch J. Military, and I became obsessed with her denim and cargo. Embellished with dozens of safety pins, but of course glamorized with a touch of fur. Badass indeed. You know me, I love things that are weird and unexpected. Things that aren’t always so pretty and put-together, but rather interesting and tell a story. Complete the look with a glittering lip and call it a day. The one by Bite Beauty is a must-have.
My favorite days have no schedule. Empty streets on a rainy day. Having the local bookstore all to yourself to explore and indulge in a new tale. Picking up a new storybook to soak yourself in for the rest of the day. These are the days of getting to know yourself, learn something new, and get inspired. Simple. Lately, I’ve been going for those throw-on piece especially to get through the muggy summer’s rain. EXPRESS has some killer figure hugging knits made for layering. Laced rompers with an open back made for rolling in bed and to the corner cafe. Sexy 90’s inspired spaghetti dresses layered over a ribbed tee. I gave them a little sass with my favorite EXPRESS hoop earrings and leather choker. Who said simple had to be boring? These pieces are just as expressive as the books I choose to read on the rainiest of summer days, but also easy and simple like coffee on days like this.
Velvet chokers. Slinky midi dresses grunged up with your boyfriend’s plaid shirt. EXPRESS is currently crushing it with my 90’s favorites. Never contrived. Totally minimal and sleek. The new collection reminds me of those iconic images of Chloe Sevigny down in the Lower East Side. Dresses with block heels. High waisted shorts and bodysuits. A little bit sexy, but still boyish. Things seemed simpler in the 90’s. The rock n’ roll. The photography. Everything seemed a lot more raw. Less makeup. More messy hair. EXPRESS has brought back the part of the 90’s that is easy, wearable, but just what you need for those hot summer nights on the rooftop. You can never go wrong with a grey, black, and pale pink color palette.
The best thing about the 90’s was the sportswear. 90’s Tommy Hilfiger in New York City to be exact. Baggy basketball shorts. Bandeau bras. And lip gloss. Fresh off the runway, this sporty set brings back what Tommy is all about. All-American youth. Rebels without a cause. Destroying the streets of NYC one Lower East Side party at a time. Reds, whites, and blues. Some of my favorite NYC 90’s babes? The too-cool-for-school Chloe Sevigny. The always smiling young and innocent Kate Moss. Liv Tyler with her cigarette and Chuck Taylors in Times Square. Christy Turlington making even a tracksuit look glamourous. Though I love a good flash-back look, I’m still keeping up with our crazy digital age, with the new MIRA fitness bracelet that I recently discovered. Synced to my app, it keeps track of your activities…steps, distance, and elevation. So when I’m kicking your butt at boxing, you know what’s up.
