Art Basel in Miami is the ultimate escape in December before the holidays. One last get-together with your wildest of pals in one crazy city. I was in town with our lovely Persol crew in celebration of the beautiful Persol Cellor sunglasses. Persol is known for being effortless and timeless. The Cellor sunglasses are an everyday pair that you could pass down to your kids, then to your grandkids, and they too will find they are still in style. I realized now that those are the key pieces to keep in my wardrobe. Anything and everything timeless.
We were like kids in the glamourous South Beach. Jumping off yachts, spotting numerous celebrities at the crowded Mr. Chow, and one too many nights up late on the dance floor. I mean, it’s Miami, and Miami is killer during Art Basel, because everyone you know is in town, and everyone’s just so excited to be away for a long weekend and get a little bit of sunshine. But besides all of glitz and glamour, I now know why Art Basel draws in art lovers from all over the world. Art Basel is incredibly inspiring. It’s the ultimate escape, mentally and physically. I wanted to take all of the art home. Especially the neon signs, the bold colorful paintings, and mystical street art. Everything had an underlying positive message. Mostly about togetherness. Seeing past our differences. Overcoming everything and anything. I think in a time like now, where it seems something always interrupts our peace in the world…greatness really only starts with ourselves, one person at a time… with kindness and understanding. Basically, be the best and strongest version of yourself. Art Basel is amazing in that you can step into a whole different world with just one photo, one exhibit, and leave with your own perceptions and story. That’s the beauty of art. You make it whatever you want to make it.
To me, our weekend was definitely about togetherness, making new friends, and laughing like nobody’s listening.
There is still nothing more classic than a black patent loafer. M. Gemishoes from Italy make some of the best flats. Simplicity at it’s finest. Luckily in California, I can go barelegged to the next holiday party. These shoes are something I can wear to the airport, and immediately step into a meeting once I hop off the plane. They’re my sophisticated go-to shoes that are timeless and will never go out of style. Next to the perfect M. Gemi “stellato” black flat, I love a striped turtleneck, and suede shift dress. A little bit Jane Birkin minimalism with a swipe of your favorite nude lipstick. Now that’s the way to go.
For me, rules are always meant for breaking. Especially when it comes to what I wear. I love metallics, and when spotted this beautiful gold skirt at YOOX, I knew I had to have it. My current rule breakers? Wearing your metallics in the day time. Trust me, not all glitter and shine is meant for those sassy nights out. You know you can find me pairing my party skirt with a classic Jonathan Saunders sweater, and Acne trench coat. All of which I found atYOOX. Their designer selection is absolutely insane and so easy to shop. The great thing about a transitional, out of this world piece like this skirt, is that I can easily switch to a silk tank and neck scarf for night. But for day, I keep it cozy and daring, unafraid of the sun reflecting off this beauty! YOOX’s designer selection is eclectic just like me. Mixing it up is the art of it all. And with that, I can easily break the rules with whatever I feel like wearing. So long as your proportions and colors are just right, it’s so fun to surprise everyone with your wild ensemble that just looks like it was made for you. So for now, I’ll be constantly browsing the designers at YOOX, because with the holidays, I know I can score a killer deal…like these Opening Ceremony booties.
My gal pals are all inner rock n’ roll stars. We love going to see concerts at Baby’s All Right. We love shopping together. We love leopard, studs, fur coats, skinny neck scarves, victorian age blouses that cinch high up on our necks. But most importantly, we LOVE to share our clothes. Luckily we are all super tall and share the same shoe size. There will definitely be times where I haven’t seen my leather jacket for over 6 months, but that’s the amazing thing about friendships. Your friends are around at all time when you need them (even when you need that leather jacket). Right now, I’ve been doing a lot of online shopping. TOPSHOPis my go-to. And this season, I’ve got a REBEL REBELthing going on under the tree. Ankle boots that’ll make any boy swoon. Multi-colored faux fur coats for glam nights out in Manhattan. And of course, my personal favorite: a good Western belt, because it’s always the last thing I throw on my favorite pair of high waisted jeans. Flattering classics with a twist. Plus, knowing you can borrow is always a plus.
And now you can create your very ownTOPSHOP “WANT LIST”and share it with your friends. Maybe you will get just what you wished for!
